What is Saoirse?
- The word Saoirse is an Irish language word meaning Freedom.
- Saoirse is a non party-political organisation which seeks the unconditional
release of all political prisoners of the conflict in Ireland.
- We seek the release of prisoners in the 6 counties, in the 26 counties, in
Britain, across Europe and in America.
- We believe that these political prisoners are clearly in prison as a result
of the conflict and that their release would be an important confidence
building measure in a resolution of the conflict.
- Saoirse is organised on a 32 county basis in Ireland with committees in
every large town. Our activities are publicity and mobilisation related.
We are attempting to focus the minds of politicians and the public on the
necessity of releases.
- The symbol of the Saoirse campaign is a green ribbon and we ask that those
with an interest in securing the release of prisoners and of building a
durable peace with justice in Ireland wear a green ribbon as a sign of
their solidarity.
